HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF LENT. (1)

HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF LENT.

THEME: OVERCOMING HATRED.

BY: FR GERALD M. MUSA.

A preacher said, “Love, friendship, respect, do not unite people as much as a common hatred for something”

If we all understood the fate of the wicked, we would be quick to forgive. Understand that holding a grudge in your heart for a person whether as a result of hurt, disappointment, pain, or whatever reason does us no good. It only reduces us to the same level as pagans.

HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF LENT.

THEME: OVERCOMING HATRED.

BY: FR GERALD M. MUSA.

A preacher said, “Love, friendship, respect, do not unite people as much as a common hatred for something” Hatred united the sons of Israel in conspiring against their brother Joseph. They hated Joseph because their father loved himn more than any of them (See Genesis 37:3-4). They plotted to kill him and throw him into a pit but later sold him to the Ishmaelites who took him to Egypt.

Through God’s providence, he gained favour in Egypt and rose to a political office where he was able to save his brothers and entire family from famine. Joseph became the proverbial stone rejected by the builders which became the cornerstone. The story of Joseph has semblance with that of Jesus who was also hated rejected, and persecuted by the Elders, Chief Priests, Scribes, and Pharisees. He was despised, but He saved the world. In his Parable of the Wicked Tenants, Jesus presents these haters as the ruthless tenants that killed the heir.

Sometimes, we too can be trapped in the emotion of hatred, jealousy, and envy. However, we should be conscious of these emotions and manage them well. Prolonged negative emotions such as fear, envy, hatred, anger, and sorrow can be poisonous, degrading, and have damaging effects on our spiritual lives and physical health. Can we be more committed to replacing hatred and bitterness with love and affection during this season of Lent?https://www.catholicforlife.com/homily-for-friday-of-the-2nd-week-of-lent-1-3
