HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I.

THEME: Standing alone!

Heb.13:1-8; Mark 6:14-29

There’s so much to learn from today’s first reading – welcoming strangers, visiting and praying for those in prison and those under persecution, being faithful in marriage, rejecting greed and imitating the faith of good leaders before us, since Christ is the same forever. Now more than anytime else, we are faced with very tough choices. How can we welcome strangers when there’s so much fear and insecurity? How can we reject greed in a world like ours?

RELATED: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I

Friends, to truly obey God, we find that we often have to stand alone. The world does not want us to welcome strangers, or avoid greed, or reject adultery and fornication. The world does not even want us to speak the truth. But we must not be discouraged, since God is our light and our help. We must not be afraid of standing up and doing good. Let’s take a cue from John the Baptist. He spoke the truth to Herod and was beheaded for it. Isn’t it surprising that God let it happen? There must be some advantage in persecution that we fail to see. Lord have mercy on us!

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
