HOMILY FOR FRIDAY MAY 13 2022

*READINGS OF THE DAY*
Acts 13:26-33
Psalm 2:6-11
John 14:1-6

*ABOUT THE FIRST READING*
In today’s first reading, Paul declares that when God raised Jesus from the dead, he appeared for many days to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem. It was those appearances of the risen Lord to his followers that transformed them from a despondent and fearful group to the joyful and courageous preachers of the gospel throughout the world of the Roman Empire.

*ABOUT THE GOSPEL READING*
Jesus declares in todays Gospel reading that he is the way to that goal, ‘I am the way’. Jesus is both our present way and our future destiny. He journeys with us, showing us the way, until we reach our final communion with him beyond death.

*WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THE READINGS OF TODAY?*
Dear brethrens, Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. Therefore, by following the Commandments, and the tenets of the Church, we are following Jesus, the way. When we exert ourselves to study and inquire so that we can learn about the faith, we are seeking Jesus, the truth. When we beg for grace in our prayer, avail ourselves of the sacraments, and foster an eternal perspective, reflecting often on Heaven, we are acknowledging that Jesus is the life.

*CONCLUSION*
We pray this morning that we would always take him as our Way so that at the end of our lives we would join him in his Father’s house.

*LET US PRAY*
Lord Jesus, you are truly the way, truth, and life, and its distractions and sufferings that deflect my attention from you. Help me to be still and know that you are God (Psalm 46:10) in my prayer, and to be attentive to you during my day, so that my faith may grow rock solid. Amen.
