HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 5TH WEEK OF LENT.
THEME: LIGHT IN DARKNESS.
BY: FR. GERALD M. MUSA.
Have you been a victim of slander, gossip, unfair accusation, or continual verbal and emotionalassaults from adversaries? Have you been accused of something you did not do? At such difficult moments, you feel you are walking through the valley of the shadow of death. The story of Suzanna in the book of Daniel is one of the greatest stories about false accusations and God’s intervention. Suzanna was falsely accused of adultery and was condemned to death. Her case was a clear miscarriage of justice until Daniel stepped in to review the case and administered a fair judgment. She was vindicated and her false accusers were found guilty. Suzanna represents the children of light who are constantly tormented by the wicked, and the elders who falsely accused her represent the world of darkness.

Our society is darkened by a culture of violence, mob mentality
lynching, and jungle justice. Once someone points to another person as a thief, everybody begins to beat the thief without questioning if the accusation is true. Only Jesus has declared himself as the light of the world (John 8:12). In a world that is engulfed in darkness, God always sends a saving light to show the way and to make a difference. God sent Daniel to bring the light of fair judgment and Jesus to be the light of the world. Do we spend more time bringing light or causing darkness?
