Although our sins have been forgiven, however, the stains, patches, dents and wounds imprinted as a result of those sins remain, and can only be removed through certain punishments or acts of purification either here on earth, or in purgatory

“Very few people believe in the devil these days, which suits the devil very well. He is always helping to circulate the news of his own death.,” says Fulton Sheen in his book, ‘Life of Christ.’ Jesus confronted a demon that tormented a boy since childhood. This destructive demon threw the boy down into fire and water, made him foam at the mouth, grinded his teeth, and made him rigid. The father of the boy cried to Jesus for help and Jesus commanded the demon to come out of the boy. %3D Jesus set the boy free from oppression of the demon and shows us how to expel demons through prayers. The disciples asked Jesus why they could not expel the devil from the boy and Jesus answered, “This kind (demon) cannot be driven out by anything, but prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29). Demons are still alive and active in the world and they continue to trouble the children of God. St. Paul calls our attention to the spiritual forces around us that try to suppress us. He says, “For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens” (Eph 6:12). Do we know that a life of fervent prayer, faith and faithfulness to the Word of God can set us free from the tyranny of demons?
