HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF LENT

HOMILY THEME: POWER OF FAITH

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon.

HOMILY:

(Jn. 4:43-54)

Monday of the Fourth Week of Lent (Day 26 of Lent)

In the day’s Gospel Jesus heals the dying son of a royal official. This time Jesus did not even go to the house and personally heal the boy. His words and the faith of the royal official were enough. It was verified by the royal official when he went home and found his son healed just about the time when Jesus had told him, “Your son will live!”

This was not the first time it happened. Jesus heals from afar. Indeed, touch had been one of Jesus’ gestures to heal. But touches are external signs. The power comes from the Lord Himself, touch or no touch. His power combined with faith will effect the miracle. The willingness of God to heal must be complimented by our faith in Him. Lest we forget, the story is not just on physical healing. The evangelist identified the second miracle of Jesus. It was meant to show God’s power in Jesus. He is the Messiah. Jesus came not only to heal the body but to heal the soul. He came to save us from our sinfulness. Thus, we believe and seek Him not only for physical healing but also for spiritual healing.
