HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER

HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: THE BREAD OF LIFE

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

Jn. 6:22-29

In the day’s Gospel Jesus begins the long bread of life discourse. The people were beginning to see Jesus differently. They wondered how they got to a place relatively far from where He was last seen. Then, Jesus, as customary with Him, elevates the discussion from earthly life to eternal life.

Jesus addressed the real longings of the Jews. While they were awed and satisfied by the multiplication of the loaves, He offered them the bread of life, the food of the soul, Himself! Jesus reveals Himself as the one who can best satisfy their hunger, physically and spiritually. He completes us. He is our enough.

If we believe that we are body and soul, then we take care of both. It is a wonder how people now spend so much time. money, and effort to beautify and make healthy their bodies. Premium attention is given to what is eaten and done. Just look at people’s hair, skin, accessories, make-ups, body feature jobs, etc. How about our soul? How about our spiritual life? How about salvation? Jesus is the answer. Have more of Jesus and we will have the most beautiful soul. What is also beautiful is He used a symbol which is very close and real to us – the bread. Most tables would always have bread. Every man eats bread and knows well its benefit. When Jesus presented Himself as the bread of life, there maybe some questions if literally understood.

But when grasped as Jesus meant it to be, it becomes acceptable and very meaningful. We are in for some days of reflecting on this great sacrament of the Eucharist. It is great because it contains the riches of the Church, Jesus in His Body and Blood. These coming days will be truly nourishing and satisfying.
