HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER

HOMILY THEME: WHAT DO YOU SEEK?

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY: (Jn. 6:22-29) Monday of the Third Week of Easter.

In today’s Gospel, after the multiplication of the loaves, there seems to be a confusion as to how Jesus reached a certain place. People kept on following Jesus. But Jesus pointed out to them that their purpose in following Him was very earthly. They were fascinated by the multiplication of the loaves. Were they aching for more miracles? Were they wanting for more food? Jesus told them not to just be contented with the bread and the miracles. Instead of the bread, they must seek the food which gives eternal life. And instead of seeking the miracles, they seek the one sent by God who is Jesus Himself.

In Jesus we are certain graces we need. We seek not only the miracles but the miracle worker. We seek not only what will sustain us here in earth but also in the next life. It takes wisdom to do that. When we have the Lord, the one sent, we have everything. When we stop short of seeking the Lord, we only have what are fleeting. That would be unwise.

Jesus helps us to seek a higher state. Life on earth is limited. It continues to the next life. Do we enter into eternal life or eternal death? Do we graduate to eternal salvation or eternal damnation? Do we enter God’s Kingdom or the devil’s place? Seek the one who was sent and reach eternal life.
