HOMILY FOR MONDAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER

HOMILY THEME: HAVE YOU SEEN THE LORD

BY: Fr Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 28:8-15) Monday of the Octave of Easter

In the day’s Gospel Mary Magdalene met Jesus but she did not recognize Him at first. When Jesus called her by her name, it rang a bell in her mind and her heart. She recognized Jesus. After getting instructions from Jesus, she went immediately and share her experience with the apostles saying, “I have seen the Lord!”

It was Jesus who said that there are those who have eyes but could not see. Seeing is not only physical. Seeing can also mean understanding. More important seeing is recognizing and discovering who people are and what things and events are. The joy and satisfaction of Magdalene on seeing the risen Lord led her to proclaim it. It is really a big difference once you see not only what is external but also what is internal and spiritual.

Have you seen the Lord? Not just in pictures, movies, or paintings. Have you seen Him personally? Have you encountered Him? Yes, it is possible to meet Him in people and in all creation. We were created in His image and likeness. He said that whenever two or three are gathered in His name He will be there in their midst. Seeing Him makes a lot of difference. It is more than a thousand times of how and what you know of Him. Seeing Him moves you to proclaim Him! Let us pray to see the Lord everyday whether in people, things, or events. And when we do, proclaim that encounter to others.
