HOMILY FOR PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD

HOMILY THEME: INNER STRENGTH, TOOL TO SUCCESS

BY: Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare

HOMILY:

(Mk 11:1-10/Is 50:4-7/Ps 22:8-9, 17-20, 23-24/ Phil 2:6-11/Mk 14:1-15:47)

Jesus knew what he was on earth to do. He came to rescue humanity from the threats, fear, doubt, plans, schemes, plots, and enslavement of the evil one. He faced uncountable challenges; indeed, he knew the challenges will come. Through the Old Testament prophets, God had made this known to Israel and all who waited for the salvation of God’s people.

Jesus, with all the challenges involve, came into our fold, kept the charge, glorified the maker and liberated humanity. It was never easy. At a point, he prayed that the cup pass by him. In obedience to the Father, he admitted the cup. This inner pool of energy made Jesus a victor on the cross.

Life has never been easy. We weep, lament, get disappointed, contemplate ending it, discuss changing vocation, quitting, and the likes. These may not change. Jesus, today, teaches us not to quit. He calls us to look at him on the cross and persevere. We can succeed; success is possible. Things can turn and be better. Let us keep the fight, even when the tempo is down. God knows we can make it; let us be strong and seek God’s empowerment.

PRAYER POINTS
~For the strength to go on
~That we will not quit with all the challenges we encounter
~For the grace to succeed at the end of our struggles

(Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare of the Catholic Diocese of Obuasi)
