HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OCTOBER 8 2022

(Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary).

Gal.3:22-29; Luke 11:27-28

A young lady walked up to me after mass years ago to talk about her worries. Her fiancée’s dad had said it would be a taboo for his son to marry someone from her side of the country. I was taken aback. My first question was “Does he go to Church?” The young lady smiled and said, “He’s Catholic Father. We’re all parishioners of this Church.” It is providential that Paul reminds us today that those who have become one in Christ Jesus have risen above tribal sentiments and local barriers. We have become Abraham’s posterity; the heirs he was promised. Why can’t we practice God’s Word?

Friends, today’s gospel reading is a reaffirmation of the first reading. When a woman marvelled at the manner of man Jesus was, and praised his mother, Jesus seized the opportunity to remind everyone that it’s not just about listening to the word and being awed. It’s a lot better to practice what we hear. Mary was the perfect example of one who heard God’s Word and kept it. May we through her intercession, be led to put into practice that which we hear daily, and so find more happiness. We must rise above the obstacles of ungodly traditions, and seek to be truly brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend. Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us who have recourse to you!
