An African proverb says, “You can’t stop trouble from coming, but you don’t have to give it a chair to sit on.” No one is immune firom the storms and troubles of life. We all experience moments of fear, chaos, anxiety, and crisis. The disciples of Jesus were in a state of panic as their boat was tossed up and down in the sea and they were at the point of sinking Jesus was with them and was sleeping. When they called on him for help, He asked them: “Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?”

He calmed the storm with three words, Peace! Be Still! His intervention shows His power to subdue the forces of nature such as the wind and the sea. When we call on Jesus, he calms our many storms, anxieties, restlessness, and troubles, just as He calmed the violent storm that terrified his disciples. In turbulent situations of life, we can run to Him and He will be there for us. Someone said, “Sometimes the Lord calms the storm. Sometimes he lets the storm rage and calms His child” Jesus is our anchor during life’s storms and when we are vulnerable and in danger. He gives and restores peace in troubled and turbulent situations. How strong is our faith when we are
in the eye of a raging storm?
