HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK OF LENT.

THEME: COOPERATING WITH GOD’S GRACE.

Holiness is the joy of doing God’s will” says St. John Paul I. Mary gives us a perfect example of doing God’s will and cooperating with God’s grace. The Angel visited Mary and announced God’s plan to her: “…¥ou have found favour with God. And behold you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus” (Luke 1:30,31). The angel addressed Mary as the ” Favoured One” (Greek Kecharitomene, Luke 1:28). Mary responded, Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).
Mary declared herself as a servant of the Lord and through her submission. Thus, she played a vital role in the salvation of the world as the mother of the long-awaited saviour, who was foretold by Prophet Isaiah. This significant encounter between the Angel and Mary is called the Annunciation (announcement of the birth of Jesus), which is celebrated every 25th March, nine months before the birth of Jesus.
The Angelus is also a daily prayer that recalls the appearance of the Angel to Mary, the message he brought and Mary’s response. Like Mary, we too can make ourselves available to cooperate with God’s plan by saying, “I delight to do your will, O my God” (Psalm 40:9). Do we make ourselves available to accept and accomplish God’s will?
