HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: HOLY ONE OF GOD

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Jn. 6:60-69) Saturday of the Third Week of Easter.

In the day’s Gospel Jesus ends His discourse on the Bread of Life with a lot of varied reactions. Some were left confused. Others rejected the call to convert and went home. His disciples were challenged and expressed their desire to understand and believe. Peter said, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” PETER was right. There is no other way but in and through JESUS. His Bread of Life teaching stressed that. In the same way that the Jews cannot live without bread, we cannot live without Jesus.

After the feast of the resurrection, this should not be hard to see and understand. No other religion nor god can offer better than Jesus. Death or the end of earthly life is so much to us. Yet Jesus offered more. Not only was death defeated, new life was gifted to us.

The teachings of Jesus are hard and easy. Hard because it deals with life here and beyond. Easy because it only requires faith. Once you have faith, everything is acceptable. Without faith, everything is subject to human reason.
