HOMILY FOR SUNDAY JULY 3 2022

This is the 14th Sunday in ordinary time. Peace is a precious gift from God. Those who make peace are blessed. Peace opens all avenues of success and progress. Where there is no peace there is no joy. Peace from heaven is the glory of the nations (cf. Is 66:10-14).

In our days peace appears to have eluded the nations of the world. People are no longer happy and this has caused much havoc. We now see the upsurge of banditry, terrorism and intimidation as well as threats to life regularly. In this situation, Paul tells us that what matters is for us to become altogether new creatures (cf. Gal 6:14-18). As new creatures we have become members of a new heaven and a new earth. No bad egg shall enter into heaven.

As new people of God, we bear the marks of Christ crucified and are sent like the seventy two disples to bring prace to the nations. Through our good examples we conquer the enemy and rejoice that our names are written in heaven (Lk. 10:1-12. 17-20). Only the peace makers and those who love others shall have their names written in heaven. As we struggle to make peace, may we be counted among those whose names are written in heaven, amen. Happy Sunday.
