This is the 16th Sunday in ordinary time (Yr.A). With parables Jesus feeds us with the secrets of the Kingdom. Only those with strong faith and endowed with wisdom can comprehend what parables designate. True children of God have the virtues of wisdom and understanding. We know that not all who say Lord! Lord! are good people. Many are called but few are chosen. The bad ones are everywhere, but the good are scarce these days. The enemies of progress are tirelessly working day and night to block the way of the righteous. But God knows his true worshippers. He allows the good and the bad to mix up but he will save the virtuous at the end of time (cf. Matt. 13:24-43).

RELATED: HOMILY FOR THE 16TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

True friends of God must not take his mercy for granted and do what is wrong. God is a just God. The book of Wisdom extols the power of God. It depicts the justice of God as the strength of his sovereign power. “You show your strength when your sovereign power is questioned” (Wis.12:13.16-19). This means that our God does not admit evil, but he gives the sinful person time to repent or be thrown into the furnace.

In order to save those who repent, God sends the Spirit to enlighten us about the truth Jesus preached while on earth. For this reason Paul says: “The Spirit comes to help us in our weakness…” (Rom. 8:26-27). Thus, the parables Jesus put to us are meant for us to have the foretaste of heavely glory. When we do the right thing, the evil one will never defeat us. When we have strong faith nothing can pull us away from God. Although both the good and the bad mix up , God will surely save the virtuous. No rotten egg will be found in the presence of God. “The virtuous will shine like the sun.” You have the opportunity now to ammend your life. Happy Sunday.
