This is the 17th Sunday in ordinary time (Yr. A). Jesus is drawing our attention to carefully observe the signs of the times. He uses the end of time discourse to open our ears to hear and be given wisdom like Solomon. King Solomon was endowed with such a great wisdom that none had ever had before or could ever have after him. He prayed to be given wisdom and not riches (cf. 1Kgs. 3:5. 7-12). In our days many pray for wealth, long life and prosperity. When they fail to receive what they prayed for, they resort to violence. Like King Solomon, true children of God pray for wisdom in order to discern God’s will.

In the world, both the good and the bad mix up. God knows that the good ones shall prosper and receive their reward at the end of time. The bad shall perish in hell for their evil deeds. For the Lord says: “This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels will appear and separate the wicked from the just.. ” (Mtt. 13:44-52). We are called to be among the just ones who proclaim the Goodness of God to all we meet.

It is very important for us to live in peace, love one another and do the right thing always. Saint Paul says: “We know that by turning everything to their good God cooperates with all those who love him, with all those that he has called according to his purpose”(Rom. 8:28-30). Since we love God, we should also love what he created in his own image and likeness. In summary, be wise, love your neighbor as yourself . Let us pray for the gift of Wisdom all our days. Happy Sunday.
