HOMILY FOR THE 1ST FRIDAY OF ADVENT — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: THE PERSISTENCE OF THE BLIND MEN!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

MATTHEW 9:27-31

It’s not everyday we see two blind men begging to receive their sight. It must have been quite a weird sight, seeing two men running after Jesus and calling to him for help. But persistence must always be the attitude of one who wishes to receive anything from God. When Jesus gets to the house, he decides to clarify their intentions. “Do you believe I can do this?” He asks. And they respond with faith, in the affirmative. Jesus wastes no further time in granting their request.

Friends, Christ’s coming is always a thing of joy. We must take a cue from the blind men in today’s gospel reading. After all, Isaiah had prophesied many years before that in a very short time, Lebanon shall become a fertile land. The deaf would hear again, and the blind would receive sight… The blind men knew that their time had come, even when they couldn’t see Jesus. We also must read and interpret the times. This is the season of the Lord’s coming. We must ask God to dispel the blindness from our own eyes. The right time to see is now!

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
