THEME: Be Intimate with God.

Have you ever been very close to someone in a way that you can’t get over, seeing yourself so involved and committed to a relationship to the point that you couldn’t let go? Think of a mother’s love for her newborn. She would not let her baby be out of her sight at any time, nor would she give up on her at any moment. Nothing would make her stop loving, even if it hurts. I watched a nursing mother feeding her baby and smiling with him even when the baby was playfully pulling the mothers hair and refusing to eat. We go the extra mile for people we love just to make sure they are okay. We often carry this burden of love because we are very intimate to shoulder their yoke. We have been overpowered by love, so we love and don’t stop loving.

RELATED: HOMILY FOR THE 22ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Our readings reflect on the highest level of our relationship with God, intimacy. Intimacy with God, as with anyone, goes beyond mere knowledge of God and friendship. It is at the level of being seduced and allowing ourselves to be seduced, being overwhelmed by love for God more than anything else. We have gone beyond knowing Jesus as the Son of God and having the access keys to His heart, to being willing to endure pain, insults and ridicule for His sake. God has already made the first intimate move, revealing to us in Jesus Christ His ultimate mission of suffering and death to save us. That’s why Jesus was disappointed when Peter condemned this expression of love. He explained to his disciples that one cannot be a friend of God unless one is willing to give oneself. The more we trust God, the more intimately we come to know Him. Closeness to God requires us to renounce ourselves, sacrifice our pain and endure every cross that comes with it. God knows and understands our struggles, He just wants us to offer them up. We can do this by modeling our lives in a way that is holy and pleasing to Him. When we do, we discover that He is all that matters, and in His will we find peace.

Remain lifted and do have a great Sunday
