HOMILY FOR THE 23RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: ERA OF GLORY

BY: Fr. Joseph Nyarko Asare

Isaiah 35:4-7, James 2:1-5, Mark 7:31-37

Great news is when your transformation is near and you are duly informed. Exiled Israel receives the message of restoration, healing, cleansing, and re-establishment. In the Gospel, we see Jesus healing and restoring all in need of Divine intervention. Jesus fulfils the prophecy of Isaiah and we live in this era of fulfilment.

Now, some beautiful information: God has empowered us to continue His ministry of transformation. Thus, we are to meet and transform those in need. This being the case, James is asking for too small from us. He just asks that we do not discriminate on the basis of financial base or background. We must go a little further. We must integrate the dejected, rejected and physically challenged ones in society.

People must find healing in us. Those who come to us must leave us better than we met them. If we are unable to restore, let us make sure that we do not destroy the little dignity left in those we look down upon. If we cannot better the lot of others, let us, at least, retain what they have.

PRAYER POINTS

~That we can respect all that we meet ~For the grace to remain firm in love ~That our presence can inspire hope and restore weak humanity
