HOMILY FOR THE 27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C

THEME: “LORD, INCREASE OUR FAITH”

HOMILY FOR SUNDAY OCTOBER 2 2022

Genuine Christian life is centered on faith in Christ, who is the way, the truth and life. Faith is never bought with money. It is a gracious gift from God which the human heart responds to. Positive response to the gift of faith brings us closer to God. It clears our vision to see the love of God. Life without faith is covered in darkness. The prophet Habakkuk describes the difference between the faithless person and the faithful one. “See how he flags, he whose soul is not at rights, but the upright man will live by his faithfulness” (Hb. 1:2-3; 2:2-4). Faith motivates our spirits to do good works. It inspires us to lift our hearts to God.

Faith liberates those who have it. One without faith in God is visionless and beclouded with passion and evil. Faith does not deceive . Those without faith are timid but the children of God shall never be timid because they received God’s gift. And God’s gift is not a spirit of timidity, but the spirit of power, and love, and self control” (2 Tim. 1:6-8. 13-14).

To be strong in following the Lord Jesus we need faith. For this reason, the apostles said to the Lord, “increase our faith” (Lk. 17:5-10). They were encouraged by the Lord as follows: “were your faith the size of a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the see,’ and it would obey you.” This shows us that our faith could move mountains if we believe and trust God. This is the time to pray for strong faith and stand by it. May the Lord increase our little faith, amen. Happy Sunday and happy new month.
