HOMILY FOR THE 2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER.

THEME: Our Faith can be demonstrated.

BY: Fr. Justus Oruma.

(a) The Christian Faith is such that it is provable and demonstrable. The fact that Faith surpasses the human reason does not mean that it is against reason and illogical. Thus every Christian should have reasons for his/her Faith and belief. That was exactly what the doubting Thomas inquired from the rest of the apostles.

(b) Jesus demonstrated the Faith and showed Thomas reasons and logics why he should believe and stop doubting; “see my hands and feet, put your finger in my side” said Jesus to him. That was to serve as a prove and the reason to believe, and when Jesus had demonstrated the Faith in the resurrected body “to the reasonable extent” Thomas could not but succumb in believe and exclaimed, “my Lord and my God”

(c) The world like Thomas today has doubted and questioned our Faith and wants to know the reason why we do what we do. The world has never before needed proves and reasons of our Faith than as at now. The early Christians demonstrated their Faith by the unity and love for one another which described their community and no one was abandoned to die of his needs. It was actually this demonstration that gave them the name, “Christians”. Jesus himself gave us clue of how we can demonstrate our Faith to the world where he said; “by this everyone will know you are my disciples if you love one another” Jn.13:35). Jesus showed his wounds as a demonstration for the Faith. What shows that I am a faithful Christian? What can I show? The way we comport ourselves holily can make the unbelievers astonished and exclaim, “my Lord and my God”
