(Sunday of the Word of God).

Is.9:1-4; Ps.27; 1 Cor.1:10-13,17

On this third Sunday in Ordinary Time, we celebrate the “Sunday of the Word of God”, which was instituted in 2020 by Pope Francis, to remind us all of the importance and value of Sacred Scripture for the Christian life, as well as for the relationship between the Word of God and liturgy. Just as John the Baptist’s sun was setting (he had been arrested), Jesus’s active ministry was beginning. The light had begun shining by the banks of Galilee, into the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali. Jesus himself takes over the message of repentance from John, “Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand,” he says.

Friends, God’s work does not come to an end. Hence, Jesus goes about today, calling ordinary people like me and you to begin the greatest movement of all time; to become fishers of men and women. What gives us joy is that we still have a chance to be part of this great movement. We cannot let politics and factions destroy our light. We must as one sit at Jesus’ feet as we listen to his word, then move out into the world, teaching and preaching the good news we have heard, healing diseases and strengthening the weak just as Jesus did. We must let the light shine to all corners of the earth.

Good morning dear. Happy Sunday!
