HOMILY FOR THE 3RD THURSDAY OF EASTER — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: WITNESSING IN ACTION

BY: Fr. Isaac Awe

Acts 8:26-40, Ps. 66:8-9,16-17,20, John 6:44-51

When Jesus offers us real life he brings us into a new relationship with God, a relationship of trust, love, and obedience. And he offers us real life which last forever, a life of love, fellowship, communion, and union with the One who made us in love to be him forever. To refuse Jesus is to refuse eternal life, unending life with the Heavenly Father. To accept Jesus as the bread of heaven is not only life and spiritual nourishment for this world but glory in the world to come. Do we accept Jesus as the bread of life?

However, we can only accept what we know, love and then be willing and ready to serve the giver of life. Most of us are shy to witness to our faith because we think we know but we don’t and not ready to be taught. Our disposition to God’s work is very paramount. Also we are hindered from witnessing to the risen lord because we have failed to acknowledge our sinfulness before God and man. The Ethiopian Eunuch asked for baptism because he met one who knows and he too was willing and ready to leave the darkness for the light.

An hungry man is an angry man so they say! The Holy Eucharist was instrumental to Philip’s action in our first reading and also described how we should be effective in witnessing to our faith after being fed with the body and blood of Christ.

Reflection: What can we show for the body and blood of Christ we have been receiving so far?

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you are the living bread which sustains us in this life. May we always hunger for the bread which comes from heaven and find in it the nourishment and strength we need to love and serve you wholeheartedly. May we always live in the joy, peace, and unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, both now and in the age to come. Amen.
