This is the 4th Sunday of Advent. The entire world is agog with preparations for the birth of Jesus Christ. In many cities, villages and homes the sign of this great event is visibly seen. There are flashes of colorful lights, flowers, paintings and decorations of all sorts everywhere. Churches are filled with assorted flowers, altars are beautifully decorated and joy fills the earth. The savior of the world is coming among us. He is to be called: Emmanuel, God is with us!

The real sign of this great event is that given by the Lord as stated by the prophet Isaiah: “The Lord himself, therefore, will give you a sign. It is this: the maiden is with child and will soon give birth to a son…” (Is. 7:10-14). We are filled with the blessings of this prophecy which is fulfilled in Christ. Paul counts himself an apostle of this Good News . “This news is about the Son of God, is about Jesus Christ our Lord…”(Rm. 1:1-7).

While we rejoice, we must appreciate the part played by the Blessed Mother and Joseph her husband. Joseph trusted Mary and took her to his home as his wife. He listened to the voice of God. He showed much love to Mary. When the angel spoke to Joseph in a dream saying: “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because she has conceived what is in her by the Holy Spirit “( Mtt. 1:18-24). From this love shown to Mary by Joseph, husbands and wives should trust each other without doubts. They should love one another. Above all, families should reunite and be reconciled. As you do so, may you be filled with God’s blessings, amen. Happy Sunday.
