THEME: “I HAVE COME SO THAT THEY MAY HAVE LIFE”

This is the 4th Sunday of Easter. It is also the Good Shepherd Sunday. Life is a precious gift from God to humanity. It comes from and it’s sustained and nourished by God. This sustainability of human life depicts God as the Good Shepherd who cares for and nurtures all life. To give us life in abundance, God sent his Son who says: “I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full” (Jn. 10:1-10).

RELATED: HOMILY FOR THE 4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR A.

The fullness of life itself is life lived in peace and joy because Jesus bore our iniquities and died for us to live. Peter tells us to immitate Christ who is the Good Shepherd. ” This, in fact, is what you were called to do, because Christ suffered for you and left an example for you to follow the way he took” (1Pt. 2: 20- 25). Only the Good Shepherd will lay down his own life for his sheep. Jesus did this for us and he is the gate to abubdant life. The bad Shepherd is a thief who comes only to steal, kill and to destroy life. The sheep hears and recognizes the voice of the Good Shepherd and come close to him/her. They love the Good Shepherd.

But, the sheep runs away from the bad Shepherd because they feel threatened by the presence of a stranger who has not come to nurish their lives. The Lord Jesus is calling on all the bad Shepherds of this world to repent!Let what we read from the Bible influence us positively to change for good as was the case in Acts of the apostles. “Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the apostles, ‘What must we do, brothers?’ ‘You must repent’ Peter answered” (Acts.2:14, 36-41). Everyone of us is called to be Good Shepherd. Both the government officials and every human person. Let everyone learn how to be your brother’s/sister’s keeper! That is, “Love your neighbor as yourself!” HAPPY sunday.
