HOMILY FOR SUNDAY MAY 8 2022

Acts 13:14,43-52; Rev.7:9,14-17; John 10:27-30

One of the painting of the good Shepherd that remains with me to this day is the one that depicts Jesus Christ with a lamb around his shoulders, and many more crowding around him. This used to be painted on one of the walls within my Major Seminary Chapel. We need shepherds like this. Shepherds who are so trustworthy, that the sheep cannot but follow them; shepherds who’ll place wounded sheep around their shoulders, without taking advantage of them; shepherds who would do whatever it takes to get their sheep to pasture.

Friends, why are we asked to pray for vocations today? Because the devil can attempt to spoil the minds of otherwise good Shepherds and block the ears of the Sheep. Bad Shepherds feed on the sheep and cripple their trust. Take the example of the Jews who incited the people against Paul and Barnabas for instance. Today, ley let us pray for good Shepherds, whose voices will gather and not scatter the sheep. Let us also pray for the sheep, that we may listen to the Shepherd’s voice, so that no matter the persecutions we now face, God will lead us all to springs of living water and wipe away all tears from our eyes.

Good morning dear. Happy Vocations Sunday!
