HOMILY: This last Thursday we celebrated the Feast of the Ascension. In some Dioceses of the world, this Feast is shifted to the next Sunday which might also be observed as the 7th Sunday of Easter. Here I wish to reflect a bit on the Feast of the Ascension.

Jesus, after accomplishing the task for which the Father sent him, left instructions with his disciples. He then ascended into heaven.

Luke narrated all these in Acts 1:1-11. Paul also prays that we receive the Spirit of wisdom and perception to understand what God has revealed (Eph 1:17-23).

The gospel according to Luke (Lk 24:46-53), shows that we who believe are witnesses to the works of Christ on earth. To be true witnesses, we shall be empowered by the Holy Spirit which the Father will send.

As the people of God redeemed by the blood of Jesus, we have been made preachers, teachers and prophets unto the world. This empowerment started right from the day of our baptism. It will be fully realized on Pentecost Day.

May our lives be positively changed through the coming of the Holy Spirit to make the world a better place, amen.

Happy Sunday.
