HOMILY FOR DECEMBER 27TH.

It is the 27th day of Dec and the feast day of John the Evangelist is celebrated today in the Universal church. This great man is the author of the fourth Gospel, three epistles and revelation. He was the brother of James the greater and they were sons of Zebedee.
John had a special place in the Apostolic college. He was described as the disciple whom Jesus loved. John 13:23, 19:26, 20:2, 21:7. He was one of the three principal witnesses to some exclusive events in the ministry of Jesus, such as the raising of Jairus daughter, the transfiguration and the agony in the garden of Gethsemane. John is always seen lying close to the breast of Jesus . At last supper, when Jesus was arrested, all disciples deserted Jesus, but John and Peter were with him. Mtt 26:56. John eventually became the only one at the foot of the cross (John 19:26)
He was same person whom Jesus entrusted His mother(John 19:26-27)

RELATED: HOMILY FOR THE FEAST OF ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE.

John was later exiled to Patmos where he wrote the book of revelation. John was a confessor, he followed Jesus from his youth until his old age.
Today we can learn these things from his life.

The special intimacy of John with Jesus. He loved Jesus so much that he stayed with Him, he equally was there for the Lord, we are call today to enter into such intimacy with Jesus, to share our challenges and difficulties with him always.

John even though he was a disciple whom Jesus loved so much, he has to suffer persecutions and exiled. He riped old age but it was characterized with suffering, loving Christ means alot, one of which carrying his cross and following him is paramount. Sufferings and persecutions are not evidence that Jesus Christ hates you.

Through the intercession of John the Evangelist, we pray our intimacy with the Lord will continue to grown from strength to strength. Amen.
