HOMILY FOR THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: GOD NEVER ABANDONS THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN HIM

BY: Fr Cajetan Anyanwu

HOMILY:

This is the 5th Sunday of Lent. We are heading towards Holy Week!

Jesus in the Gospel according to John (Cf. Jn 11: 1-45) wept for a dear friend, Lazarus. Even though the Jews were out to kill him, Jesus remained fearless. Lazarus was already four days in the tomb. There was dialogue between Jesus and Martha. “Lord if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus assured her that her brother will rise, and Jesus himself is the resurrection and the life. Mary repeated the same words Martha used. But seeing how Mary and her companions were crying, “JESUS WEPT.” We see how Jesus cares for us when we are in sorrow. He will never abandon those who believe in him. He raised up Lazarus to manifest the glory of God. As he commanded Lazarus to come out from the snares of death, so will He command our problems and anxieties to leave us alone.

Happy Sunday.
