HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OCTOBER 7 2022

Gal.3:7-14; Luke 11:15-26

You’ve probably heard of how Bishop Oliver Dashe Doeme of the Catholic Diocese of Maiduguri was driven by a God-given mandate in a vision to lead others in praying the rosary until the extremist group Boko Haram disappears. This kind of experience isn’t new. Today’s feast was instituted by Pope Pius V to celebrate the anniversary of the defeat of the Turkish fleet at the battle of Lepanto, on the first Sunday in October 1571, which put an end to the threat of Muslim domination of the Mediterranean at the time. The celebration was later moved to October 7.

Friends, we must become soldiers of Mary; Catholics who aren’t ‘rosary shy’. The Holy Rosary remains the weapon with which the reign of Satan will be brought to an end, whether he manifests himself in unbelieving and troubleshooting neighbours, like those who preferred to call Jesus a Prince of Demons in today’s gospel reading, or through the evil group Boko Haram, and any other such extremists. As a priest colleague of mine once wrote in his reflection for today, “let’s go to war.” Pick up those rosaries and make a difference. Our world needs it. We cannot stop until Satan is completely defeated. We cannot stop until he is unable to return. Will you go to war?

Good morning dear. Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, pray for Us!
