HOMILY FOR NOVEMBER 10.

Phil.1:7-20; Luke 17:20-25

Have you heard about Attila the Hun? He was a very popular and strong Barbarian back in the day. There was even a movie about him. Pope St Leo the Great repelled Barbarian invasion, famously persuading Attila the Hun from marching on Rome. He also prevented Vandals from massacring the population in 455. The saintly man worked hard for the unity of the Church; he left many writings behind, which gave him the title ‘Doctor of the Church.’ He struggled to make Christ’s Kingdom visible in the Church on earth.

Friends, Jesus reminds us that we don’t need to run from pillar to post in search of God’s Kingdom. It is among us. There are those who would make us believe that Christ is only present in a certain Church, or on a certain mountain… Jesus says not to be bothered, for the true effects of God’s Kingdom have an all encompassing effect. We don’t need to run from place to place in search of Jesus.

We extend God’s Kingdom here on earth by bridging relationship gaps as St Paul does in the first reading; by frequenting the sacraments and pondering on his word daily; by rejecting Jesus less and less in our daily choices to live better and act better by God’s grace.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead. Pope St Leo the Great, pray for us!
