HOMILY FOR JANUARY 26TH.

2 Timothy 11-8, (Titus t1-5;, Luke 10:1-9

Our society is becoming more and more individualistic. Everyone wants to go solo. Wise people say “No man is an island.” This is because we need one another and we live in a world where we are interdependent. Words like synergy, harmony, and collaboration are commonly used today to express the need forworking together. Many centuries ago, Jesus taught his disciples how to work together. He “.. appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come” (Luke 10:1).
Jesus teaches us the wisdom of collaboration by sending disciples two by two. Today, we remember Timothy and Titus who were co-workers with St. Paul. In his letter to Timothy, Paul praises Timothy for his sincere faith, gives credit to his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, and encourages him to be steadfast in love and self-controlL He refers to Titus as “My true child in a common faith.” Titus was among the 72 disciples sent forth two by two by Jesus to preach the Gospel.

The true test of preachers is their ability to live and work together. It is easier to love the world than to love our neighbour, colleague, teammate, roommate, or collaborator. There is no preaching more eloquent than the ability to co-exist in harmony with others. Are we good collaborators in working with others for the glory of God?
