HOMILY FOR THE MEMORIAL OF ST. AMBROSE, BISHOP AND DOCTOR.

THRME: Those who hope in the Lord renew their strength!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Is.40:25-31; Matt.11:28-30

St Ambrose became Bishop of Milan at a time when there was serious conflict between Catholics and Arians over the appointment of Bishops. He was a lay man at the time and not even baptised. Coerced by the people and the Emperor, he was baptised, ordained, and installed Bishop within a week, on December 7, 374. Phew! He immediately cast his hope on the Lord and never grew weary of fighting the Arian heresy with learning, firmness and gentleness.

RELATED: HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF ADVENT

Friends, we must hope in the Lord like St Ambrose did. His extraordinary life made it possible for him to convert St Augustine (remember Augustine?). In the gospel reading, Jesus invites all those who are weary and overburdened to come to him. In him we find strength, for his yoke is easy, and his burden, light. So don’t be discouraged anymore. If you’ve been struggling with that weakness, that bad habit, that spiritual dryness, come and renew strength. Jesus is waiting in the Blessed Sacrament, and He never fails.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
