HOMILY FOR TUESDAY NOVEMBER 1 2022.

Rev.7:2-4,9-14; 1Jn.3:1-3; Matt. 5:1-12

You’ve probably heard about Halloween, right? The name is from ‘All Hallows Eve’; which is same as the eve of All Saints. It’s not an eve of the celebration of ghosts and corpses as is the case in many places today. It’s rather an eve of preparation for the dual celebrations of All Saints and All Souls. In the first reading we’re told that those clothed in white robes are the people who have been through the great persecution, and have washed their robes white in the blood of the Lamb. No wonder Jesus says, “happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account… Your reward will be great in heaven.”

Friends, today we celebrate the Church triumphant. Saints who have already made it before God’s throne of glory. Today we admire their lives and aspire to be like them. We ask their powerful intercession as we continue on our earthly pilgrimage. Since we hope to be saints, we must purify ourselves and try to be as pure as Christ. It’s not about doing extraordinary things daily. It’s about doing ordinary things in extraordinary ways; rising above sin and temptation; paying attention to the weak, aged, sick and needy. Encouraging those who’ve lost faith; fighting for the oppressed and marginalised; placing the interests of others before ours. This is how saints are made.

Good morning dear. All Saints, pray for us! Happy New Month of November. Don’t forget to go to Church today!
