HOMILY FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD (CHRISTMAS).

THEME: “And the Word became Flesh”

BY: Fr. Justus Oruma.

(a) “And the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us”- why did the Word become Flesh? =that God may be with us, so that we may be able to see Him, touch Him and feel Him warmly; for only that which has body (corporeal) can be seen, touched and felt warmly; as Jesus in Luke 24:39ff told Thomas “touch me, I am He, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have”. Thus the flesh God took became a proof of His presence among us. Only that which has body (corporeal) can be located in space (place) and time. God took flesh that we may be able to locate Him in our place, time and culture; be able to seek Him and find Him in every situation of our life and in everything time of our life and be saved.

(b) God wants to be located in our hearts. Sad that He came to His own and they rejected Him (Jn.1:11). Accepting God is to say “Yes” to the Word of God in our hearts as Mary did. So the true Crib of Christmas is our hearts.

(c) God is so humble that though He was in the form of God, he did not count equality with God but condescended and became human (Phil.2). So, Christmas is all about becoming “human” and God is not left out. Then why can’t we be human to our fellow human beings. Why is man Wolf to his fellow (as said by a Philosopher- man is wolf to man), why is man Terror to his fellow man. Let us be truly human beings with merciful hearts and compassionate hearts unto one another. It is good and enough to be human to make this world a heaven. This is the joy of Christmas, being human to our fellow as God became human for us. -Merry Christmas.https://www.catholicforlife.com/homily-for-the-solemnity-of-the-nativity-of-the-lord-christmas-1/
