*INTRODUCTION*
Good morning dear brethrens, today we celebrate the Memorial of saint Justin, Martyr of the Church.

*FROM OUR FIRST READING*
In our first reading today, the prophet Sirach mentioned of the great works of the Lord which were truly wonderful, and everything happened in this universe precisely because the Lord has willed it all to be. Nothing happened without the Lord’s approval and without being aligned to His will. He knows all that we need and He will always be by our side, providing for us and guiding us through the path that we are walking through in this life.

*FROM OUR GOSPEL READING*
Bartimaeus, who features in this morning’s gospel reading, always encourages as someone with a great spirit, in spite of the very difficult circumstances of his life. He was clearly very determined to make contact with Jesus. He didn’t speak politely to Jesus; he shouted at him, ‘Son of David, Jesus, have pity on me’. When the crowds scolded him and told him to be quiet, he shouted all the louder. Here was someone who was totally focused on making contact with the Lord and he wasn’t going to be put off by people who were trying to put him in his place. It was his desperate need that drove him to seek out the Lor.d with such single-minded determination. His determination brought results. Jesus paid attention and he asked the very people who were telling Bartimaeus to be quiet to call him over.

*CONCLUSION*
Dear friends in Christ, we can allow that story to speak to us in a whole variety of ways but that first part of the story encourages us to keep seeking the Lord, even in the face of those who would try to block us from relating to the Lord. In various ways, the culture in which we live can demand that we keep quiet in regard to our faith and our efforts to grow closer to the Lord. We need something of the spirit of Bartimaeus today The gospel reading assures us that if we have that spirit, the Lord will not be found wanting. He will respond to us and empower us to follow him along the road, as Bartimaeus ended up doing.

Your Word is indeed my Strength Oh Lord our God. May You All Have a Blessed New Month of June.

*Happy Memorial Day of St Justin, Martyr*
