HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF EASTER OCTAVE.

THEME: God’s relationship with His people.

BY: Fr. Francis Onwunali.

It has always been God’s plan that humanity- man and woman relate with the Godhead in an intimate and convincing way. On this fifth day of Easter Octave, the Scripture passages speak of God’s relationship with His people.

Following the healing of the crippled man, the Jews were amazed at his restoration to health (Acts 3: 11-26). However, Peter explained that they should not be amazed because what they are experiencing is the fulfilment of God’s promise of restoration to God’s Chosen, which has now begun in and through Jesus, the Risen Lord.

RELATED: HOMILY FOR EASTER WEDNESDAY.

In the gospel (Luke 24: 35-48), Jesus presenting Himself to the entire disciples after the breaking of bread with the two on the road, speaks the Easter proclamation in one word: SHALOM! (Peace). He eats with them and shows them His crucifixion mark, indicating He is not a ghost. Jesus explains to them that all happened according to God’s plan.

Dear friends, Jesus speaks peace to us every day as we listen to His Word. The *Shalom* that Jesus announces indicates a bond of closeness, a reconciliation between Him and His disciples who deserted Him as He hung on the cross. Embracing Jesus’ peace makes us whole – salvation; we become reconcilied with God and our fellow human beings. Having experienced Christ’s enormous generosity in reconciling us with God in spite of our sins, we are called to be bearers of peace and reconciliation. Am I ready to share the message of peace with all I meet today and everyone who has wronged me?

I pray as we journey in life today, we will open our hearts to absorb this peace which the world or material possession can not give (John 14: 27). With the Spirit of the Risen Lord in us, we are called especially in this uncertain time to share love and peace with one another. May the peace of the Risen Lord reign in our lives today. Have a peace-full day!
