HOMILY FOR THURSDAY JULY 7 2022

The readings of today highlight God’s graciousness and it is expected of us to be gracious unto others.

The first reading (Hosea 11: 1-4, 8-9) recalls God’s abundant graciousness on the Chosen People right from “childhood”, however, they have constantly despised this favour by turning against God. By all human standards, God should be angry and unleash His wrath, rather, in His graciousness God grants pardon and is ready to show mercy as they turn to Him. “I will not give rein to my fierce anger,… for I am God, not man: I am the Holy One in your midst and have no wish to destroy”. Do you take God’s graciousness and mercy for granted?

Jesus in the gospel (Matt. 10: 7-15), “apostles” (“sends out”) the Twelve on their mission to proclaim the Good News and to trust in God. They should carry with them the message of peace since they are proclaiming in the Name of the Prince of Peace; that which they have been given freely, they should freely give. Whatever happens, God will provide for those He has called and sent.

Dear friends, when our work and life are carried out according to God’s plan, God will surely meet our need and bestow blessings on us. Even if we meet opposition and rejection in life, God always steps in to lead us out in and through His way.

I pray as we journey in life today, we will realize that all things work together unto good for those who are called by God and labour according to God’s plan. Our focus in mission should not be the material gain but doing the will of our Master, Jesus. May our life mission like that of the Twelve, bring more succour and relief to those we encounter. Have a revival-full day!
