HOMILY FOR THURSDAY JULY 7 2022

Gospel – Matthew 10:7-15

Thank goodness the state primary elections are over! I admit I would cringe every time the doorbell rang

Hark, the voice of Jesus calling, "Who will go and work today? Fields are white and harvests waiting, Who will bear the sheaves away?" Loud and long the master calls you; Rich reward he offers free. Who will answer, gladly saying, "Here am I. Send me, send me"?

HOMILY FOR THURSDAY JULY 7 2022

Gospel – Matthew 10:7-15

Thank goodness the state primary elections are over! I admit I would cringe every time the doorbell rang and I would be confronted with one candidate or campaign worker, asking my views and trying to convince me that their candidate is the best choice. Every day my mailbox was jammed with colorful flyers for a variety of candidates each one professing to have all the answers. Pick me! Pick me!

From this past Sunday’s Gospel, the Apostles were given their marching orders. And we were all reminded that we are tasked with the same mission – to spread the Word, preach the Gospel in our words and actions. We are all challenged to make that journey of faith!

But today let’s turn things around. What if it was our town that the Apostles traveled to? What if it was our door that they came knocking? What if they were the ones handing out leaflets and flyers, all professing to have the answer to all of life’s questions? What if they brought stories of ‘the one’, the Messiah, the Savior of us all?

Would we answer the door? Would we bother to listen? Would we pretend to not be home and ignore the knock? Would we smile, be polite and then slam the door in their face?

Knock! Knock! The Lord is calling!
