HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OCTOBER 27 2022.

Eph. 6: 10-20; Psalm 144: 1.2.9-10 (R. 1a); Luke 13:31-35

Have you ever loved someone who didn’t love you back? The feeling can be heart rending. Imagine how Jesus felt in the gospel reading of today, when some good Pharisees came to warn him against the evil plans of Herod Antipas, King of Galilee. Though he was heartbroken, he refused to stop his work and run away from Jerusalem. He was going to stay, even if it meant death; even when the people had rejected his offer of love more than once.

Friends, when we set out to do God’s work, there will always be ‘foxes’ who try to intimidate us into silence. But just as Jesus isn’t afraid to call Herod a fox, so we too must follow St Paul’s injunction in the first reading, and wear God’s armour at all times. If are not strong in the Lord and in the power of his might, we cannot resist the wiles of the devil. We must make TRUTH a priority, then live RIGHTEOUS lives, going everywhere with the Gospel of PEACE. Our FAITH in God enables us quench all the flaming darts of the Evil One. To these we must add the HELMET of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the WORD of GOD. Finally, we must persevere in prayer and supplication, knowing that every battle is the Lord’s. Are you with me?

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
