HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OCTOBER 27 2022.

“Grow strong in the Lord, with strength of his power. Put God’s armor on so as to be able to resist the devil’s tactics. For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the Sovereignties and the Powers who originate the darkness of this world, the spiritual army of evil in the heavens.” The message today is to be vigilant so as to be on the part of victory already won by Christ by shedding His precious Blood.

In the first reading (Eph 6: 10-20), St. Paul reminds us that we are in a spiritual battle, and he went further to describe the equipments we need to wage this battle unto victory – truth, integrity, eagerness to spread the gospel of peace, rooted in faith, accepting the gift of salvation and holding firm to the Word of God, the sword of the Spirit. Are you on the side of victory?

In the gospel (Luke 13: 31-35), Jesus is warned of Herod’s intention to kill Him. However, Jesus sends report back to Herod, “that fox”, that He will continue to do what He needed to do until God’s victory is won on the third day.

Dear friends, we do face some real sense of opposition in our world today as we step out in faith to live our Christian lives. The spiritual controls the physical, and the battle is first to be won in the spiritual before there can be peace in the physical. How do you relate in the spirit? Is your spirit under the control of the flesh or the other way round?

I pray as we journey in life today, we will be courageous to stand for the truth, that which sets free, and avoid lies and falsehoods which strip us of our integrity. May righteous living protect our hearts and soul from decay so that victory over the darts of the evil one will be ours. Have a courageous and victory-full day!
