Homily for Thursday November 25 2021

Dan. 6:12-28; Luke 21:20-28

As I read the first reading, I realised that enemies would stop at nothing to target the one they want to pull down. I remember how some formators would go to the Rector when I was still in formation to prevail on him to expel a seminarian. They would begin by reminding him what the rule says, just as the presidents and satraps did in Daniel’s case. They would say, “Fr Rector, does the seminary rules and regulations allow blah blah blah? Well we found this young man at fault. He has to go…” When the Rector seeks a way to forgive the erring student, they would remind him that the edict could not be revoked…

This is the kind of situation we find Daniel in this morning. He had in fact gone against the edict of the King by praying to God. The King loved Daniel and didn’t want him killed, but the presidents and satraps insisted. In the end, God proved himself God and shut the mouth of the lions. This is exactly what He will do in our case if truly we believe in him and do not compromise in the practice of our faith. The last sentence of the gospel reading tells us not to be shaken. We must stand erect and hold our heads high, no matter the opposition and persecution, because God will surely liberate us.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
