HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER

HOMILY THEME: Are you led by the Spirit?
Acts 8:26-40; John 6:44-51

BY: Fr. Oselumhense Anetor

Have you heard about sloth? It’s one of the capital sins/vices. Sloth is extreme laziness; that feeling that prevents one from doing anything meaningful. If you’ve seen the animal called sloth, and how slowly it moves, you’ll get the picture. The Holy Spirit cannot coexist with slothfulness. Why? Because there are souls to rescue, there are souls to save. Why would the Spirit of God lead Philip to aid the Ethiopian Eunuch, and further lead him all the way to Azotus? Because he was zealous, and he was ready to work for the Lord.

Friends, we can’t stay within our ‘safe cocoons’ and hope that God will heal the drug addict, convert the prostitute, the pipeline vandal, the robber and murderer, the kidnapper, the corrupt official… We need to ‘escape’ from our nests, get our clothes wet sometimes, our feet muddied, as we jump into the ‘gutters of sinfulness’ in the genuine attempt to save some souls. We need to be open to the Spirit of God, who’s not a spirit of laziness and timidity. Do you know anyone you should tell about the new life in Christ? Or do you need the message yourself? The Spirit of God is asking you to get up and swing into action NOW!

God bless your day ahead.
