HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF LENT YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: OUR COMMUNION WITH GOD

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Ex. 32:7-14)
Thursday of the Fourth Week of Lent (Day 30 of Lent)

In the day’s first reading we have Moses pleading to God in behalf of the Israelites who had turned away from the ways of God and had, in fact, created a molten calf as an image to worship. It was a violation of the covenant. Israel had prostituted herself electing to worship another god than the God of Abraham, Joseph, and Jacob. Jesus, in the Gospel, referred to Moses in enlightening the Jews regarding His testimony. Prayers are effective. God listens to our pleas.

However, when we pray, not everything is about the grace God will give but also our response and those who we pray for. Change in another person, for example, maybe brought to God for the grace of conversion. When the grace is given, the person concern should make use of the grace. They cannot change the person without his consent. Remember the saying, “pray as if everything depends on God. Work as if everything depends on you.”

We are our brother's keeper. We cannot save only ourselves. We believe in the community of saints. We are connected with the dead languishing in purgatory and those in eternal bliss in heaven. We ought to pray and help each other. God heard the prayers of Moses. He will hear ours too!
