HOMILY FOR TUESDAY JULY 5 2022
Hos.8:4-7,11-13; Matt. 9:32-37
How would you feel if your child suddenly woke up one day and began calling a piece of stuffed teddy bear ‘daddy’, or ‘mummy’? You would likely be so disappointed, you might send the child to a psychiatrist. You would know instantly that something wasn’t right. So why do we sometimes prefer to place our hope in riches, fame, and cheap popularity, without any recourse to God who gives us life? Why do things our way; refusing to resist evil and refraining from fighting for justice, equality and fairness? Our world has become like an overgrown garden. Where are the labourers?
Friends, the first reading today reminds us that our offenses always have consequences. We must therefore learn to make due recourse to God at all times. Seek ye first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all other things will be added. And when we find ourselves at crossroads, we need to come to Jesus; for he heals the sick, raises the dead, brings solace to the broken hearted, peace to the troubled heart, and forgiveness to the one who sincerely repents. What else are we waiting for? The harvest is rich and the labourers can be many if only we’re willing. Are we good to go?
