HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OCTOBER 4 2022

Homily for the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi

Gal.1:13-24; Luke 10:38-42

You have heard about Francis of Assisi. I remember him as that Saint who saw the good in everything and everyone. He gave up wealth to serve the poor and the needy. He could really sing; and it was he who founded the Order known as the Franciscans. There’s just too much to say about him. There’s something of the zeal of Francis that reminds us of the Apostle Paul; the manner in which he abandoned the life he used to know, to follow the one God called him to lead.

Friends, from Sts. Francis and Paul, we learn that service to God and neighbour comes before everything else. That’s why the one who sits at the Lord’s feet to pay attention to his Word, chooses the better part each time. We may not be able to see the moon as our sister, or the Sun as our brother as Francis did. But we can meditate on God’s Word daily, as we strive to make our world better by one act of random kindness, especially to the poor and the needy. In the end, we would have chosen the better part. Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead. St Francis of Assisi, pray for us.
