HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 30TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II.

HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OCTOBER 25 2022.

Eph.5:21-33; Luke 13:18-21

Some years back, I was privileged to be at Holy Family Catholic Church, FESTAC, Lagos State. There was this singles’ programme they usually had, and the reflection given the day I attended the programme was captioned, “This marriage sef!” That got me thinking. When you listen to some young men talk about marriage, you will weep. They have no idea what marriage is about. No wonder we have couples who seem not to have any real plans beyond the wedding day.

Today, Paul reminds us that marriage is a journey. Wives must RESPECT their husbands, just as they’re SUBJECT to the Lord, and they must submit to their husbands just as the Church submits to Christ. On the other hand, husbands must LOVE their wives as Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her to make her holy. Dear friends, many marriages will last longer if women respect their husbands more. A man understands love as respect. More homes will be happier today if men took more time to listen to, care for, and appreciate their wives. Just as God’s kingdom, like a mustard seed, and like leaven, expand into untold dimensions, so too must we patiently nurture love till everything else loses sway.
