HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK OF LENT.

THEME: TRUE LIVING WATER.

BY: FR. GERALD M. MUSA.

Holy men spoke of water in symbolic and profound ways. Water is also associated with healing. St. Louis de Montfort tells us, “God is a spring of living water which flows unceasingly into the hearts of those who pray.” The prophet Ezekiel speaks of water flowing from the temple which feeds trees, making them provide food and keeping their leaves and fruits ever fresh.

The Gospel mentions another water in Jerusalem in a pool called Bethzatha where Jesus healed a man who was sickfor 38 years. Jesus came and asked him if he wanted to be healed. He answered, “There is no one to help me..” John 57). Jesus healed him, and demonstratedgreater power than the water at Bethzatha because He is the Living Water. The healing water which prophet Ezekiel speaks about is a prophecy of the Living Water of baptism that communicates the life of God.

It is the water from the side of Jesus which cleanses sin. More stil, the water flowing from the temple signifies the outpouring of God’s grace in our lives, enabling us to be fruitfin, strong and fresh in the spirit. Iike this sickman, there are people who are caritically sick and weak and have no one to help them. Can we îmitate Jesus, în this season of Lent by being missionaries of God’s mercy through helping the needy and introducing them to Jesus, the Living Water?
