HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME.

THEME: GOD’S PLAN PREVAILS.

BY: FR. GERALD M. MUSA.

People of faith rightly say the plant God favours will grow even without rain. One wonders how the seed of God’s word continues to survive even in a world where people pay little or no attention to the message of the Gospel. Many think the word of God has lost its power in a world that is increasingly going berserk. Jesus narrates a parable about a sower whose seed fell on friendly and unfriendly ground. Some seeds fell along the path, on rocky ground, upon thorns, and on good soil.

The seeds were the same, but the grounds on which they were planted were different. A member of the Missionaries of Afirica (White Fathers) who was working on a very difficult missionary terrain once said, “Despite the cold reception of the good news, we shall continue to plant the seed of the Gospel. Two inspirational African proverbs support this kind of dogged missionary determination. The first says, “One whose seeds have not sprouted does not give up planting.”Secondly, “You cannot stop planting cereals just because birds are going to feast on them.” Even in tough situations, God’s plan prevails and his word will stand forever (Isaiah 40:8).

How receptive are we to the seed (word of God)? Do we actively participate in sowing the seed of the word of God in the heart of others? Do we easily quit when the ground is rocky and thorny?
